SOMEONE HAS HIT THE PAUSE BUTTON

Now I say pause for reasons that will become clear to those who don't already know.

At appox. 4.30pm on Saturday 21st May it was the end of the world as we knew it for all those closest to Alan, my father and author of this blog.

He has fallen into the dry dock and has suffered a life threatening head injury, his skull is fractured, he has multiple broken ribs and other minor injuries. he has a bleed onto his brain and is in the critical care unit, he is in a coma but stable all that can done is being done.
I'm Matt, Alan's son I wanted to take this chance to inform you all and also to ask you to use the comments option at the end of each post to show your support for this amazing man, he can read them later (your stories or just well wishes) thank you.

My dad has taught me most of what I know however I am, was, four years into a very important subject to me and him ,he has been teaching how to be a father, dad, role model and best mate to my son Thomas and to those of you who have met Thomas will know that Grandad and I are doing a good job, so dad fight hard lets get back to school and teach me to be the the man, the dad, the role model and best mate that you are. xx

Finally my thanks to the all the people out there in the boating community, and you know who you are, fantastic above and beyond, thank you so much, the emergency services , hospital staff thank you.
So as I said in the opening line someone has hit the PAUSE button not stop or eject just PAUSE

Matt

For the 1st time in a very long time I am lost for words and Al you know that dosent often happen !However I just want to remind you how much we love you. You are one of the most significant people in the foundaton of my life.In 1981 you became the "father" figure I was missing.Since then you have been there everyday, always the person I can depend on to show me how to change a plug, fix the boiler and ask for advice. You are the best listener, never judging just guiding me. When Elliot was born in 1999 I couldnt think of a more suitable "God Father" I new you would be the one to help Elliot through the difficult job of growing up. I new you would be the guy that did "boy" things like fish, shooting, whittleing wood and so so much more. Elliot loved to shoot tin cans from the back wall at 119 just like so many of us have done before.Everyday Elliot uses one of the skills you have taught him and I want to thank you for all your patience, skills and love you have shown him. So I said I was lost for words and maybe that isnt true as I could write to you forever. No words can ease the pain Aunty Noreen, Matt & Maryanne feel at the moment but I send hugs and love to you all. You have a Husband and Daddy in a million, luck after eachother. Love Vicky xx

Dear Mrs Al,
Well I hardly know what to say apart from how much I have enjoyed the blog and had many laughs reading it all, enjoying your photos too.
I have experience of sitting at my husbands intensive care bed, its ghastly, you have a good family to carry you through it.
We are now several years down the line and narrow boating again. Have faith and take heart.
Best wishes to you all,
Lisa Carr

Noreen,
We met you and Al last summer at Ellesmere and I bought one of Al's watering cans. It will be a reminder for me to pray for you both whenever i see it.
I pray that God will be with you and that you will know His love which is with you through this black and horrible time.
God bless you and your family,
Catherine

Speedy recovery Al, and what a lovely family you have giving you the support you need at this difficult time, If love and determination is what it will take to get you fighting fit again, your halfway there. I only know of you through your blog, but us bloggers have a kind of unspoken connection, and we are all rooting for you. Debbie.
